John is a member of our Leadership Team.

Date, Place of Birth: November 3, 1979 in Atlanta, Georgia

Places (states) lived in: I grew up moving around a lot.  I spent my early years in Fayetteville, Georgia and then moved to Houston, Texas for middle school.  After my freshman year of high school my parents were transferred to Orlando, Florida where I lived for two years before moving to Athens for my final year of high school.  I went to college in Athens at UGA and have called Athens my home since 1997.

Education: I graduated from UGA in December 2002 with a BBA in Real Estate.

Salvation Experience: When I was in fourth grade (I believe it was the Spring of 1989) I attended First Baptist Church of Atlanta with my father and sister.  One Sunday morning, I was listening to Dr. Stanley preach and I felt the Lord stirring my heart.  In that moment, I knew that I was separated from God because of my sin. While I didn’t know fully what all ‘sin’ entailed, I knew that I wasn’t perfect and that I could not ever live up to God’s standards.  After being counseled by staff members at the church, I asked God to forgive me of my imperfections and to allow Jesus Christ to live in me and through me.  I was later baptized and have since lived with the peace of knowing that no matter how bad things get in this world, Jesus Christ sacrificed His life for me and because of His grace and mercy, I have eternal salvation.

Work/Ministry Experiences: Professionally, I have worked for Childers Associates, a commercial real estate appraisal and consulting firm since May 2002.  Within the church, I have served as a deacon, taught children’s Sunday School, been blessed on several mission trips, served in the nursery, and am currently serving on the Life Church Leadership Team.

Favorite Things about Life Church: First and foremost is the commitment to preach and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  To not compromise or water down the Word of God but rather to unashamedly proclaim the truth of Jesus Christ, our Savior.  Secondly, the friendships.  I can’t tell you how thankful Erin and I are to have brothers and sisters in Christ that we can not only serve beside, study God’s word with, and grow in Christ with, but also that we can call friends.

Family Members: Erin, my best friend and wife since 2003 and Eli James, our son born in 2014.  We also have two rescue dogs that are spoiled rotten. Charlie, a lab boxer mix; and Cooper, a beagle Erin found on the side of the road.

Hobbies: I spend a lot of time building train tracks with Eli James and spending time with my family. I enjoy sports and hanging out with my wife and I especially love combining the two.  Erin and I try to attend several UGA sporting events every year and are excited to introduce Eli James to the wonderful word of sports too.  I also really enjoy being humbled by the game of golf.  Seriously, I am really bad.  A recent hobby I have picked up is light construction and maintenance around the house.  Nothing too elaborate, but I’ve discovered I really enjoy building stuff.

Secret Ambition: I would love to be able to consistently score in the 80’s at golf.  Also, I used to play saxophone but it’s been a very long time since I’ve picked it up.  I’d love to play again if I ever have the time to practice.
